Northern Eagle Owl（Bubo bubo）

　　Habitat: mountain areas, forests, grass slopes, deserts and fields.
　　Feeding habits: quickly dive to kill rats and small birds with its sharp claws and bill.
　　Food: mice, rabbits, small birds, frogs, snakes, lizards and crabs.
　　Size: with a full body length 80 cm and a weight of 1000-2200 g. 
　　Habits: resident bird. It's a kind of nocturnal fierce bird of prey and the largest owl in China. Northern eagle owls often act alone except during the mating season. It has extremely good sense of hearing and visual ability during the night. It takes rests in dense woods during daytime. It will vomit the hairs and animal bones that it cannot digest, and throw them in places near its nest. Northern eagle owls often utter sounds like "hen, hu, hen, hu" to communicate with one another. When they don't feel safe at something, they will utter loud "da, da" sounds to threaten the opponents. Its main food is mice thus it is called "experts in catching rats". It produces eggs in stone cracks and it produces 3-5 eggs each time. It will hatch its eggs at the same time they produce eggs. Their young ones are quite different from adults. In seasons when they are short of food, large-sized owls will swallow up small-sized owls. Such a habit seems cruel, but it ensures the survival of the strongest.
