Common Kestrel(Falco tinnunculus


  Habitat: mountain areas, open territory and open fields.
  Feeding habits: catch small birds or dive to the ground to catch animals with its sharp and flexible claws during flying. 
  Food: mice, small birds, lizards and locusts.
  Size: small-sized bird of prey. Its size is like a dove, with a full length of 38 cm and a weight of 185-225 g. 
红隼  Habits: resident bird. It seeks for food alone or in pairs. It flies quickly and nimbly. Common kestrels build their nests in holes of trees and crack of stones or occupy the nests of magpies. When they are seeking for food, they have actions such as quickly fluttering their wings or suspending in the air. The cries of common kestrel is jar and loud, which sound like a series of "gei, gei, gei..". Common kestrel has especially sharp visions. It can recognize the ultraviolet rays in the urine left by rats, and further determine the key area of its prey. Just like other birds of prey, male common kestrel is usually larger and fiercer than female ones. 
  Category: Ave, Falconiformes, Falconidae.
  Distribution: all around Yunnan and other places of China. 
  Level of protection: Class II key state protection animal of China
