“纳米”是物质的长度单位，等于十亿分之一米。物质小到纳米尺度时，它在电子学、光学、力学等方面可能表现出超越乃至迥异于大尺度物质的特点。原本色彩黯淡物体在纳米尺度下会呈现五彩斑斓，轻如蝉翼的薄片会变得坚韧似钢，优良的导体会变成绝缘体，普通的材料会发电发光……

The materials in a nanoscale will exhibit quite different characteristics from bulk materials in electronics, optics, mechanics, etc. For instance, dim object becomes colorful, something light and thin as onion skin becomes tough as steel, excellent conductor becomes an insulator, ordinary material becomes light-emitting……
