Sayram Lake-Highmountain lake on Silk Road
It will cost you some time to get to Sayram Lake, starting from Qingshui Town of Yining and turning north along the National Road 312,Guozi valley, Huamu Valley, Ertai and then ascending Kekelaxing Mountain road and reaching Chagansumu, Bole County. The tranquil lake is just behind the mountain.
Sayram Lake is also named Santai Haizi, which Santai is Kazak meaning blessing (wish the travelers along the Silk Road good luck).
Sayram Lake is located in the Ke'erguqin Mountains, west Tianshan Mountains. Encompassing an area of 453 square kilometers with length and iwdth of 30.0km and 23.4km respectively, it is a fault basin at an elevation of 2,071.9 meters, the highest among the Xinjiang high mountain lakes and with a maximum depth of 86 meters. The lake embraced by mountains is just the gem.
Thanks for its pleasant climate and rich grass resource, Sayram bears the fine pasture. National Road 312 stretches along the southern bank of Sayrum Lake. It is also the strategic and transportation center in history.
The lake area has been explored as the tourism scene. Tourist now can reside in the Mongolian yurt, eating mutton and drinking the Sayrum wine beside the lake. It has a vast water surface with blue ripples and abounds in water resource and lush grass. Tucked away in the steep mountains, it is secluded and misty. The snow-capped peaks and the dragon spruce on the mountains set each other off. All these beauties are highly praised in Yuan Dynasty, in "Records of Changchun True Man Traveling West", it was called Tianchi (Pool in Heaven) : "encompassing hundreds of li, snowy mountains encircled and mirrored in the lake. Precipices stand around the lake, pines high and dark ".
