Red Lion-head

This variety has become well known since Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and is loved most by Japanese. The body is short and stout with extremely developed and fleshy sacs that extend from the head to cheeks covering eyes and mouth, looking strong and graceful quite similar to an awe-inspiring lion. The plumper the sac is, the more precious it is; and those of top grade are fairly expensive. In respect of colors, red ones are most common with many new colors increased in recent years.
