Palm has a big family of over 2000 members, and it mainly scatters in tropical and sub-tropical areas, particularly in tropical America and Southeast Asia. China has over 300 varieties of palms, and they scatter in a widespread area, particularly in mountain areas of Southwest China. 

Garden of Palms

The Garden of Palms situates in the middle of the Tropical Botanical Garden of Xishuangbanna. Ever since the establishment of the garden, the technical workers there always take the transplantation and cultivation of palms as one of their critical research tasks. They successively introduced new varieties of palms from Canton, Guangxi, Fujian, America, Brazil, Srilanka, Cuba, and Thailand etc., and they collected more than 160 varieties of palms up to the present. Of them, were transplanted successively for the first time in China, including plamyra palm, African Wine Palm( Raphia vinifera), Queen Palm(Chinese Name),Hui Lu Palm(Chinese Name), Yi Li Palm(Chinese Name), etc. They also collected many special palm varieties of Yunnan, such as Er Le Wa Li Palm(Chinese Name),Jin Palm(Chinese Name),Yunnan Rattan、 Xishuangbanna Rattan etc; and the garden has now become the second largest palm transplantation base in China
