Blind Golden--line Barbs(Sinocyclocheilmus anophthalmus

Habitat: reside in underground Karst caves or underground rivers with a vertical distance of 60 m from the ground level; usually the Karst characters inside the caves are quite obvious.

Feeding habits: mainly feed on the wastes of insects and bats. When raised under artificial condition, they also eat aquatic worm and artificial baits.

Features: it has a long and thick body. Its eyes have degenerated and have disappeared. People cannot find any trace of eyes in Blind golden--line barbs except its eye dimples. Its eyes have degenerated completely and it has no visual ability at all. It has no reaction to light but it is quite sensitive to vibrations. As soon as it touches the water surface, it will sink to the bottom of water immediately. Its flesh is red when alive and the whole body of it is half transparent. People can see its inner organs vaguely. Its fins are of milk white.

Category: Pisces, Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae, Cybiinae

Distribution: endemic specie of China and is only distributed in Xiaogou Darst caves in Yiliang County, Yunnan.

Protection level: it is listed as class II provincial protection animal of Yunnan.
