Little Grebe
Habitat: lakes, rivers, ponds and marsh.
Feeding habits: catch fish, shrimps and aquatic insects with its bill in water.
Food: fish, shrimp, insects and aquatic vegetations.
Size: with a full body length of 27 cm; weight: 210 g.
Habits: It's a kind of resident bird. They often act alone or in groups. They are clumsy in flying but are good at swimming and diving. They can build a kind of floating nest in water, which can rise and fall in conformity with the water level. When dangers are encountered, they will hide their young under their wings and dive into the water to escape. They often utter cries with vibrations in early morning and at dusk. During the mating seasons, the feathers around its neck change into dark red. Its feather will become light colors in winter.
